the loveliest of weekends in new york city

It has been my dream for a long time to be able to live close enough to New York that we could drive there for a quick weekend getaway. Well, for these lovely 13 weeks we do, and lucky for me, one of my best friends lives there! We took advantage of this last weekend by driving up there after Bob finished his half day of work on Friday. It would have only taken us under 3 hours, but unfortunately we arrived in New York at 5 PM and it took us 1 1/2 hours to drive the remaining 7 miles. Boo! It was well worth it though.

It was bound to happen. With all of the baby junk we have, of course we were going to lose something. I just didn't know it would happen right within our reach. I had gotten onto a subway car and then realized it was not the right one. I started backing out and the empty bottle that was in the cup holder of the stroller teetered just enough to fall right out and in between the crack of the platform and the subway car. And there it lay, Minnie's favorite bottle, just outside of our reach. I tried to convince Bob to jump down and get it, but I'm glad he didn't because Dave told us later that some of the lines are electrified. What a great wife I am, eh?

Elyse was such a wonderful hostess, and she and her boyfriend David were so good to us. They showed us around some of their favorite places in the city, including one of my favorites...dinner overlooking the Hudson River. It was stunning! Bob and I toodled around Saturday doing all of the typical touristy stuff, since he'd never been there before, and then we met up with Elyse and Dave in Greenwich Village, which was so charming. That night they took us to dinner at a Dominican restaurant up in Elyse's neighborhood. Minnie was SO tired and our waitress just scooped her out of Robert's arms so we could finish our dinner peacefully. I was both grateful and a little nervous because my back was toward the majority of the restaurant, but Elyse had a pretty good view and watched as our waitress took Min around to all the other staff and guests. She was a big hit! On Sunday we went to sacrament meeting at a Spanish branch, which Bob loved. I caught about every 10th word or something, but mostly just hung out with Minnie. We then went for a stroll through Central Park and the upper-west side. It was a perfect way to end a lovely weekend. Next time we're there I'm excited to skip all the touristy stuff. It was a total zoo at Times Square! I've now been there enough times that I'll just get to enjoy the rest of the city, which I'm looking forward to.
Big thanks to Elyse for letting us crash at her cute place! Now, come to Hershey!

  1. Minnie looks more like you in that photo of you, Elyse and Minnie than I ever thought she has.
