a little getaway to the hottest place on earth

Robert had a conference down in Arizona last week and since my cute aunt, Alison, and her family and one of my close friends live down there, the girls and I decided to tag along. Visiting Phoenix in June may not have been the smartest choice (hello 115 degree, sweat down my neck all day kind of weather) but with swimming pools at our disposal, we pretty much beat the heat by getting in the water (or staying inside). Minnie loved playing with all of her "big boy cousins," who are actually my cousins, but whatever. They were so sweet with her, especially cute Sam who is 12. He would build legos and marble races with her and I just fell in love with that kid for being so good to her. Alison and I got pedicures and then diet cokes at Sonic the morning before the conference started and Bob stayed home with the kids. Bless him. We spent one night at their house and then headed to the resort with Robert the next day. The resort was ridiculously nice and the pool was incredible, with an enormous waterslide and a sandy beach. The second day of the conference, Louie, Min and I headed out to see Jennie and her kids and ended up staying there the whole day. Minnie and cute little Hazel became fast friends and Lou took a good long nap in the baby's crib, which was delightful. Jennie made us such a delicious lunch and it was nice to just be able to sit and talk, pretty much uninterrupted, for hours on end. Jennie is just the kind of person you can't help but love to be around. She is funny, kind, genuine and such a good mom and friend. It was a really great day. After Bob was done with his conference we headed into old town Scottsdale to eat and ended up at Grimaldi's for pizza. Our waiter gave each of the girls a chunk of pizza dough to play with while we waited for our food which was seriously awesome. I think he earned a good tip just for that. Lou is the worst at staying in her high chair so it was a great distraction (at least for a few minutes anyway). Minnie did have a little accident in the brand new rental car that night, but luckily the fabric seats weren't very absorbent so we were miraculously able to get almost all of it out of the car without much trouble. Alison and her family had a last minute trip come up so the last day we stayed at their house without them, which was kind of strange, but also really relaxing. They have an incredible pool and Minnie, Bob and I swam for about 2 hours while Lou napped on Saturday afternoon. All in all it was a wonderful trip and I'm so glad we did it. I just feel like even simple little adventures like these are important for our family and I'm so grateful Bob agrees.
